Porrello Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 (edited) I was watching a stream of shroud and he changed to 1440p from 1080p and said his mouse sensitivity felt “slower” IN GAME, and wanted to adjust his DPI to match... I feel this is wrong? am I right in thinking that resolution does not affect mouse sensitivity in game as long as the aspect ratio is the same (1080p = 1440p = 4k)... but only affects your mouse on the desktop due to scaling? i always thought changing resolution in game just makes the textures higher and graphics higher detail, without affecting the actual mechanics ... unless ofcourse you’re changing aspect ratios (16:9 > 21:9) which would affect your FOV. I’ve searched online and it seems there’s not many people that are aware of this as I thought and I saw many posts of people recommending to change sensitivity if changing resolution. Changing screen size (same aspect ratio) doesn’t affect the image shown on screen. It’s the same exact image on a different size screen. It’s comparable to sitting further or closer to your monitor, and you wouldn’t adjust your sensitivity if you sat further away so why would you change it if your screen is bigger/smaller. Also, resolution just changes the amount of pixels on the screen giving more detail to your game. 3D games don’t calculate movement with pixels...

I feel this is wrong? Was he just changing resolution on the same monitor? And in what game? The only game of the over 650 currently supported by the calculator where resolution plays a part other than for aspect ratio is Minecraft Bedrock Edition.

It was Valorant, and it was 2 different monitors. One was 1440p 27” and one was 1080p 24.5”

You are right that changing screen size would technically would be the same as sitting closer or further away, but some people prefer to account for the size of the monitor as well.
Wizard DPI Wizard Posted November 13, 2020 Wizard Posted November 13, 2020 The calculator will do this conversion if you enter different monitor sizes btw.

Haha, I just found it super weird. I myself went from a 1440p 27 inch to 55inch 4k and didn’t change a single setting and it felt exactly the same
