fanatycme Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Hello, What polling rate should I use 500hz or 1000hz? My mouse is Zowie ec2-a and is stable at 1000hz, i checked. The default rate is 1000hz. The CPU usage at 500hz is 11%. The CPU usage at 1000hz is 15%. And yes I feel a difference between 500hz and 1000hz, with 500hz is more jaggy and 1000hz is more smooth, feels faster, but i seem to hit players more often on 500hz. What you advice me to use? Should I stick with 500hz to save 4% of the CPU usage, or should i use 1000hz?
DNAMTE Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Personally, ALL my zowie mice shut down my USB controller at 1000hz at some random irritating time (MSI Gaming pro carbon X99). I realise that the issue could well be my motherboard, however I have no issues with any other mouse (500 or 1000hz). Switching zowie to 500hz fixed the issue completely. If you prefer the feel of 1000hz, don't let 4% cpu usage worry you though... Personally I don't notice a huge difference from 500 to 1000hz. I run 800DPI.

DarioFubar Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 (edited) If 1000hz is stable then use that, if it is not. Then use 500hz. Most people don't optimize their systems for polling precision. A thread that helped me a lot was this one http://www.overclock.net/t/1550666/usb-polling-precision Use this software http://www.overclock.net/t/1590569/mousetester-software-reloaded to test your mouse and post the results in that thread. Someone will surely help you. Not to bash this forum. But if you need more advanced technical help, head over to that site instead. Edited June 20, 2017 by DarioFubar

WhoCares? Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 (edited) I heard the rumour that the increase in cpu usage (regardless what hz) is only when you move the cursor over the Desktop, but not actuelly in-game where it is important. Did you test it just on the Desktop? For me if I just open Microsoft Word and move my cursor there is no increase in CPU usage but on the blank Desktop there is.. Can anyone confirm this? WhoCares? Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 (edited) Can you test it on something like Word/Steam/ any other application please? Do you have an increase there too? Or maybe in a game that utilize very Little CPU usage? Edited June 20, 2017 by WhoCares?

DiaAgl Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 yep, use 1000 polling rate it can really help when you need to get those fast flicks and those millisecond shots! also i've been there, done that. used 125, 250, 500, 1000.
iBerggman Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 To me it feels easier/more stable to aim at and track targets on 500hz, might be placebo or whatever but when I play on 1000hz I have to correct my aim a lot more than I do on 500hz. Come to think about it it could also be that somethings wrong with my EC1-A because I can actually tell the difference between 500hz and 1000hz on it but not on my other mice (Naos 7000 and Deathadder 3.5G)

So 1000hz is not stable, hence 500hz feels better to you. I had the exact same, and it was because i had horrible polling precision. I then optimized my system and now 1000hz feels as good or even better than 500hz before optimizing it .Check this thread out. http://www.overclock.net/t/1550666/usb-polling-precision Some mice drop polls or are flat out unstable. But with a gaming grade mouse, unless it is faulty, there should be no difference (especially Zowie, Logitech, Razer and so on). So 97% of the time it is not your mouse but your operating system, that won't allow you to use a stable 1000hz. But that can be optimized, like already mentioned. Edited June 22, 2017 by DarioFubar
