How does FOV work?

I'm asking because I'm not sure about this.

Let's say I'm converting my sens from CS:GO to Unturned my fov_cs_debug is set to 90 calculator also defaults to 90 but shows HFOV 106.26 and VFOV 73.74 in that case what does 90 FOV mean?

Unturned config FOV is equal to VFOV according to this calculator. So do I need to set 73.74 FOV in config for it to be the same as CS:GO?

Well since Unturned's FOV is measured in Vertical degrees then you want to match it to your CSGO VFOV 73.74 so around 73-74 FOV in Unturned. Unless you can change it through the config to make it exactly 73.74 like it is in CSGO.

90 FOV in CSGO means 90 horizontal degrees in 4:3 aspect ratio. If you are using a wider AR, the extra width is added on resulting in 106.26 horizontal degrees for 16:9.

And yes, 73.74 is what you need to match this in games that use vertical FOV.

The different values are different measurements. The screen is not a square, so you will have different vertical and horizontal measurements. The 90 degree value is the horizontal measurement if the screen was 4:3 wide.

Thanks to all of you for clearing that up for me! the FOV felt so low when setting it to this value so I was not sure about that. I guess I just need to get used to it if I want the same felling as CS:GO.
