Conversion between monitor sizes

Recommended Posts

Hi  everyone,

i think it would be a cool idea to make it possible to convert between different monitor sizes. For example if I move from a 24" to a 27" monitor. The same movement of my mouse creates a larger distance on the monitor, because it is generally larger. It would be good to implemet this somehow. Or is there a way to do this manually?

This was the idea a while back ago, and the reason there is a disabled monitor size input field for the game you are converting to.

But the idea was scrapped because it doesn't scale. Sure, from a 24" to a 27" the small change might work. But imagine using a 6" smartphone as a monitor, then scaling that up to a 27", or scaling 22" up to 60". Or the other way for both. It would not work unfortunately.

But yes, there is a way you can do this manually if you want to :)

I don't know what game you are thinking about, but I'm using CSGO as an example here. Fill out the Convert From game as you have it with the 24" monitor. Make sure Monitor Distance is selected in the Convert To section.

Notice the 1 inch mouse movement = 6.9292 inches crosshair movement part of the output.

Now change the monitor size to 27", and manually adjust the sensitivity until you get close to the same ratio:

Note that for some games (like CSGO) you can actually do this with sens*oldsize/newsize, i.e. 2*24/27=1.777778 if the aspect ratio is the same, but this does not work for all games (mainly games that have 0 as a valid sensitivity value).
