machete Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) This is kind of a question but also just interesting information for players of several games that aren't in the calculator. As you probably know, there are some games missing on the list for which the sensitivity can be deduced from known facts. For example, Left 4 Dead 1 will be the same as L4D2 because all Source engine games use the same sensitivity scale. Additionally, I tried every Id Tech 3 game I play (OpenArena, Urban Terror and Return To Castle Wolfenstein) with sensitivity values obtained from the Quake 3 calculator and they all worked as expected, according to several ruler measurements. I can't generalise the conclusion to all Id Tech 3 games but I'm convinced enough by the empirical evidence to withdraw my requests for the games I mentioned. I'll just use the Q3 calc! Are you using deduction in addition to analysis? Edited September 3, 2014 by machete
Erick Avila Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 You kind of have a point.Surprisingly Black ops 2 sensitivity & source games give me the same sensBO2 = 4.42 on 200 DPI CS:GO/half-life 1&2/garrys mod/etc also calculates it to 4.42 and it's indeed the same.COD4 along w/ other games give me long decimals.Problem is that for example it has already been concluded that Sniper elite III has some type of acceleration. I measured sniper elite V2 once for 5 min and I didn't feel any acceleration. So maybe III has some acc and v2 doesn't.IMO it's not really that safe to conclude that EVERY game will have everything similar in the engine regarding movements/fov/etc.
Wizard DPI Wizard Posted September 8, 2014 Wizard Posted September 8, 2014 Are you using deduction in addition to analysis? Indeed! I don't need to analyze and reverse engineer sensitivity formulas for games that use a common engine like Source or Unreal Engine 3. What I do need to do though, is some checks to verify how FOV and Windows Pointer Speed settings affect the sensitivity (this varies even for games that use the same engine), and to gather some information regarding config files, acceleration settings and raw mouse input settings etc. And some games have their own unique sensitivity algorithm even though they use a common engine, so I always need to do some verification before I add the games.
