Restricting Calculator for Non-Subscribers

Recommended Posts

Let me say this first: I understand the need for money to run this website and for all the work that goes into it.

With the subscription model, even though it is extremely cheap, I don't think you should restrict games to subscribers. Instead, make it so they get advanced mode, desktop mode, and get the restricted games 30 days early or something like that. I think if I was a person that didn't use this website so much, this would be an instant "alright, this website isn't very good, he just forces us to pay for 15% of the games that are on the list". I know that's not what you want, because when you're paying for a website you want people to go to it and use it. But I do know you can solve that problem pretty easily. Just do something like the 30 day restriction for subscribers only, then put a countdown when people try to use the calculator for those games too early. Say something like "Currently this game is only for subscribers. Please wait [30 days] to be able to use this yourself."

Thanks for reading this post, and I hope you took consideration into the current subscription model.

Your exact suggestion is actually one of the things I want to do, which is why I recently added the date fields in the game info output :) I will also remove the live calculation part from non-subscripers, so they have to click a button to calculate instead (mainly to reduce databaseload and give priority to premium members).

That sounds great, thanks :)

A little off-topic, but would there ever be any way to save your preferences on the calculator? I prefer to use centimeters instead of inches and calculate for a specific distance instead of by sensitivity. To me I find it a little annoying to change it every time, but I know there are other websites that have many more settings than this that don't save those either. With cookies, maybe? Or maybe that's just a problem on my end (although I doubt it) :)

I'm actually working on that too, a way to save or bookmark your settings. Initially I wanted this to be a premium feature too though, but I'm a bit torn at the moment, as it would be very beneficial if you could share your settings for others easily. We'll see where I land on this one later :)

Thanks so much! Very well-run website, especially for all the work that goes into it, and with the new site and everything, I'm sure you've worked a lot on it :)
